Mixed and Faith
Religion and Race

In this episode we look at the connections between race/culture and religion/faith.
We are back again with a full episode! This episode is dedicated to sharing our experience and view on religion and how it correlates with race.
After our check- in (what are we binge watching??), we dive right in and explore Dani’s background with Catholicism. Dani, who rides the line of Atheism and Agnostic, grew up with a very strong Catholic background. Dani also shares that she would not call herself spiritual but has a fervent cultural connection to Catholicism. We then expand of the idea of being culturally Catholic and the ties to tradition and family for the Mexican and Latinx community (and why so many are leaving the faith).
In 2019 it is still said that America is a “ Christian nation” though we are finding more often that people are creating there own religion and spiritual experience.
We then move on to Dameca as she shares a bit about her religious background and her coming into her own faith as a Christian. Dameca expresses her own struggles with being a WOC accused of taking part in a “white mans religion”. This leads us into talking about the increase of African-Americans leaving Christianity and turning to African based religions. Perhaps this has something to do with “white Jesus”.
We wrap up this talk with suggestions on how and how not to address the topic of religion when discussing it with others…we hope the take away is helpful.
D&D Get Mad At The Internet: Ooooo, a teacher shares their political view in the classroom and we are mad!
Happy Place!! Dani and Dameca unwind and share what brought them joy this week.
