In this episode we share some of our tips for having those difficult, uncomfortable conversations at Thanksgiving dinner.
Just in time for Thanksgiving this week we diplomatically discuss having difficult conversations with your family. We recognize that though some may find family gatherings uplifting and relaxing others do not share that experience. I’m sure many of us can recall our first real lesson on dinner etiquette( besides no elbows on the table), “ Do not discuss, politics or religion at the dinner table.” This week we encourage our listeners to rebel against small and superficial conversations, in hopes to deepen our relationships with our family members.
We first discuss why, why even have these uncomfortable conversations, does the “reward” match the effort? While answering this question we touch on the issue of echo chambers and the dangers of remaining silent on issues ie; sexism, xenophobic, bigotry.
Switching gears from why into HOW we have these uncomfortable conversations brings up two possible types of heavy conversations, healing or bridging. This particular episode we are focusing more on bridging conversations.
We move onto a suggestive guideline that we hope you find helpful in navigating these uncomfortable conversations. A few points of the guideline are, assuming good intentions , staying calm, choosing your battles ahead of time, and having your support system for afterwards!!
It wouldn’t be the holiday season without Dani and Dameca getting mad! This week’s Mad At Internet segment is VERY on theme. Hint Happy Ungrateful Tuesday!!
As always we end with our Happy Place, this week consist of trendy alien comics and audio books?? Make sure to listen for details.
